Why We Built a Christchurch Plumbing Website With More Than 90 Answers
When Anne from MJ Robertson Plumbing & Gas approached me about a new website, she wasn’t looking for something flashy.
She wanted a website that would help people.
That might sound obvious, but many business websites still spend most of their time talking about themselves.
The new MJ Robertson website takes a different approach.
You can see it here:
What Are People Actually Searching For?
When somebody has a plumbing problem, they rarely search for a company name.
Instead, they search for the problem.
Things like:
- Why is my hot water cylinder leaking?
- How do I stop a toilet from running constantly?
- What causes low water pressure?
- Why does my drain keep blocking?
- Is a leaking tap expensive to fix?
- How often should gutters be cleaned?
These are real questions being asked by Christchurch homeowners, landlords and property managers every day.
Rather than hoping visitors will call without enough information, Anne wanted the website to answer these questions properly.
Building a Library of Plumbing Knowledge
One of the biggest parts of this project was creating a large collection of FAQ pages.
Not short, one-line answers.
Real explanations written in plain English.
The goal was simple.
When somebody searches for a plumbing question in Christchurch, there should be a good chance that MJ Robertson has already answered it.
This helps visitors get useful information quickly, but it also gives Google a much better understanding of what the business does.
A Website Built For Today’s Search Behaviour
The way people find businesses online is changing.
Ten years ago, most searches were something like:
“Plumber Christchurch”
Today, people are much more specific.
They search for questions, problems and symptoms.
Google likes websites that provide useful answers.
AI systems like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot do the same thing.
That’s why the new website focuses heavily on educational content.
Not because Google likes long pages.
Because people like getting answers.
Traditional SEO vs AI SEO
Most business owners have heard of SEO.
SEO helps search engines understand your website and match it to relevant searches.
AI SEO is similar, but the audience is different.
Instead of helping only Google, you’re also helping AI systems understand:
- What services you provide
- Which locations you serve
- Who your ideal customers are
- Which problems you solve
The clearer this information is, the easier it becomes for AI tools to reference your business when answering questions.
That is becoming increasingly valuable as more people use AI-powered search tools.
More Than A Digital Brochure
The finished website includes:
- Service pages
- Local Christchurch content
- Dedicated pages for homeowners
- Dedicated pages for landlords
- Dedicated pages for property managers
- Dedicated pages for facility managers
- Extensive FAQ content
- Mobile-friendly design
- AI-friendly content structure
Most importantly, it reflects how Anne and her team operate in the real world.
Practical advice. Straight answers. Reliable maintenance plumbing.
The Finished Result
MJ Robertson Plumbing & Gas now has a website that works as both a marketing tool and a knowledge resource.
It helps visitors find answers, helps search engines understand the business, and helps AI systems identify when the company may be relevant to a searcher’s question.
